Tucked in Jos, the capital of Plateau state in the middle belt region of Nigeria is Shere hills with its undulating rocks and rock formations with peaks and dips that would please the most ardent rock/mountain climber.
Plateau state as the name rightly connotes us peppered with scenic ranges of hills, rocks and valleys.

According to history, Jos was established in 1915 as a tin transportation camp, during a time when the mining industry was one of the major sources of commerce in the town. With a population of about 1,000,000, Jos is regarded as one of the multicultural cities in Nigeria and is situated at the northern edge of a pear-shaped upland known as the Jos Plateau.

Situated 10 kilometres east of the Jos metropolis, Shere hills with its numerous peaks reaches a height of about 1,829 metres of 6,001 feet above sea level.
The hills make up the highest point of the Jos Plateau and form the third highest point in Nigeria after Chappal Waddi on the Mambilla Plateau.

Several rivers and hillocks are scattered among the highlands which adds more to the already striking landscape and backdrop with its cluster of hamlets and villages. The Hills also serve as a camping spot to the Citizenship and Leadership Training centre.

Lovers of adventure will enjoy this rugged and rustic tourist spot as the altitude and location of the hills offers prime view of the city below.
