About This Project

EMCA in collaboration with The Venus Bushfires and Richard Coker Foundation organised another preview edition of the world’s first pidgin opera titled ‘Song Queen: A Pidgin Opera’, which was written, composed and performed by the gifted The Venus Bushfires.

The shows ran in tandem with the Richard Coker Foundation’s Literacy Campaign, involving an essay writing competition about the sickle cell condition. 10-12 year old students from three  state schools in Lagos took part.

The competition took place to improve creative and expressive writing skills in young students and to raise awareness about the sickle cell condition. This year’s finale shows of ‘Song Queen: A Pidgin Opera’ will take place this November at Muson Centre in Lagos. Our recent preview attracted a notable crowd from Lagos and abroad. It was a fabulously magical show that took place at the new Mike Adenuga Alliance Francaise Centre. As we go from strength to strength our finale shows look set to wow new and existing audiences.
