13 Oct Motor-sports Enthusiasts in Nigeria

Few months ago, emc3 Nigeria in partnership with the Ogun state government announced the multimillion dollar motorsports project that will elevate the status of motorsport, engineering and motorsports related events in Nigeria and Africa at large. Motorsports including Power bike and car racing are considered expensive hobbies and the high cost of importation and exchange rate does not help at all. These restraints have not stopped Nigerians from engaging in and enjoying this sport so we decided to make a short list of motorsports enthusiast in Nigeria.

1. Shahin Nouri (Fine Boy Racing) – Although Swiss and only Nigerian by marriage, Shahin has been living in Nigeria since 2009. Last year, he won a trophy for Nigeria at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo in Belgium and Nigeria’s anthem was played for the very first time ever at the event! We are so proud to have him.

2. Ovie Iroro –    22 year old Ovie Iroro is the first Nigerian to compete in the British Formula Ford Championship. The UCL Mechanical Engineering graduate and race car driver entered the world of racing when he entered for the very first time and won a Go-Kart Championship in Lagos in 2010. Things are looking up for Ovie and we look forward to seeing him at Formula 1 someday.

3. Utibe Abasi Nkanga – This petite mother of two rides a monstrous Honda CBR 600RR in Lagos. She has told severally of how she rode from Abuja to Uyo for a biker’s convention much to the amazement of those who thought she couldn’t handle the distance and stress.

4. Kanu Ogbannaya – This one is my favorite. Just when we were celebrating him as the first Nigerian to ride to the tip of Africa, Cape Agulhas, he rode his Nigerian registered bike to Europe and back! He has said that riding is a lifestyle for him and not just a hobby. Kanu lives for the adventure and we just want to ask, is he married? Asking for a friend.
