07 Mar Aim of the Transparency Forum Initiative, a Core Key to National Development
As Buchi Ajufo, a Strategy and Communications Consultant at AfricaPractice noted in the recent article published on Increased Transparency that; Nigeria is both Africa’s largest market and economy due to its natural resources and an ever-growing population but in order to sustainably leverage these assets, it must encourage a culture of strong corporate governance within its organizations and recognition of the broad value of enhanced transparency … Meanwhile, just yesterday, the President revealed his biggest headache in the battle against corruption in the country.
President Buhari through his special adviser noted that the nation’s judiciary remains his major headache.
According to The Punch, Buhari disclosed that his travails in courts up to the level of the Supreme Court in his three previous attempts at becoming the President showed clearly that the judiciary needs urgent reforms.
“On the fight against corruption vis-à-vis the judiciary, Nigerians will be right to say that is my main headache for now.
“If you reflect on what I went through for 12 years when I wanted to be the President, I attempted three times and on the fourth attempt through God and the use of technology, it was possible for Nigerians to elect an APC candidate as President.
“In my first attempt in 2003, I ended up at the Supreme Court and for 13 months I was in court. The second attempt in 2007, I was in court close to 20 months and in 2011, my third attempt, I was also in court for nine months.
“All these cases went up to the Supreme Court until the fourth time in 2015, when God agreed that I will be President of Nigeria,” he stated.
He however, assured that with the support of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, Nigeria’s judicial administration system would receive massive boost.
Toke Alex-Ibru, our partner in the Transparency Forum Initiative project showed his support and view on his recent post on instagram yesterday regarding the ‘transparency’ the President is clamoring for “Mr. President we agree that the Judiciary must be cleaned up, restructured and also investigated in matters of bribery and corruption in cases of some judges. New laws must also be put in place to ensure cases and trials are not prolonged and delayed with rulings and judgments within 6 months. Special courts for matters of corruption should be established and appointed with Judges of integrity. With these structures in place hopefully it can relieve you of the headaches your administration are facing in the fight against corruption”
It is glaring that Transparency is paramount in achieving a translucence corrupt free nation.
